Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be chaperones for the honored guests? Yes, we will have chaperones provided. Our idea is to have them as part of our evening to ensure fun and safety for all. They will be out there dancing and encouraging all to enjoy the evening. ALL chaperones/volunteers will have passed a criminal background check before being able to attend.

At the end of the event do I need to check out the honored guest I bring out before leaving? Yes, you will meet the chaperone that will be placed with the guest when you check in and will be given a ticket that you will need to give back to that chaperone upon leaving the event. This is to ensure all individuals exit safely.

Do I have to stay at the event? No, we encourage you to stay and enjoy food and fellowship with other parents and care providers but also know this may be a good time for you to have your own respite time. We just ask you to be back by 8:45 when we will be inviting parents/care providers onto the dance floor for the crowning ceremony.

What if I drop my guest off and somebody else is picking them up? We require all guests to be matched with the ticket given to the parent/care provider at check-in. We will need to check that to ensure our guests’ safety.

What if my guest experiences sensory overload? We will have a room dedicated to this. There will be an activity they can do or a movie they can watch. We encourage you to bring noise-canceling headphones if you feel they will be needed.

What if I want to be my child’s chaperone? That is fine, we will need you to fill out the volunteer form and submit your criminal background check. If you plan to do this, we will need you to let the registration table know at the time of registration that you will be the chaperone for that individual for the evening. You will also need to attend our short training that will be held on February 3rd or February 4th. Details will be provided once you have registered to volunteer. All volunteers must be registered no later than January 30th.

Is there a cost to attend this event? No, with the work of Gracepoint Fellowship, Inclusion Works, and the many community sponsors, we are happy to say there is no cost for the event, for our honored guests, or the parent/care providers.

What is the deadline to register a guest/parent chaperone? All registration must be completed by January 30th. Be sure to register early! Space is limited and fills up very quickly.

What is the dress attire for the evening? This is a formal prom experience and we encourage formal wear. We strongly encourage the ladies to wear flats. We will be holding the prom in the church gym. We are anticipating providing a day for our ladies to come to check out lightly worn dresses and our gentlemen are offered a tuxedo rental for $100 at Tuxedo Junction in Medford (tuxedos are not required) More details to come on the dress event. Parent/Care Providers are welcome to dress up if they desire.

What if a guest has an allergy? We must know of any allergies for the guest you are registering. There is a place to list allergies on the registration form. It is also recommended that you tell the chaperone of any allergies they have.

About Night To Shine 2024

Night to Shine is an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs ages 14 and older. In 2024, Friday, February 9th, Night to Shine will celebrate its tenth anniversary as thousands from around the world will come together to honor those with disabilities.

Grace Point and Inclusion Works will serve as a host of Night to Shine 2024, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. The unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, celebrating people with special needs will be held in-person by host churches around the world simultaneously on Friday, February 9, 2024. Grace Point and Inclusion Works are excited to be a part of this worldwide movement that God is using as a catalyst to change how cultures embrace people with disabilities and to rally the church worldwide to honor their local community of people with special needs, ensuring they know they are valued and loved.

Every guest of Night to Shine enters this complimentary event on a red carpet complete with a warm welcome from a friendly crowd and paparazzi. Once inside, guests receive the royal treatment, including hair and makeup stations, shoe shining areas, limousine rides, corsages and boutonnieres, a catered dinner, karaoke, prom favors, a dance floor… all leading up to the moment when each guest is crowned king or queen of the prom.

“I’m so excited for Night to Shine 2024! All around the world, individuals with special needs are going to be celebrated like they should be. We’ve thrilled to cheer for every guest as they walk the red carpet, dance the night away with their friends, crown them as a king or queen of the prom and most importantly, tell every single one of them that their life has purpose and they are loved by us and the God of this universe,” said Tim Tebow, founder of the Tim Tebow Foundation.

Night to Shine launched in 2015 with 44 host churches and 15,000 volunteers honoring more than 7,000 kings and queens of the prom. In February 2020, 721 host churches and 215,000 volunteers came together to celebrate 110,000 honored guests with special needs.

Night to Shine innovated and endured through the pandemic with the first-ever virtual Night to Shine, celebrating thousands of honored guests through unique adaptations including a complete virtual video experience and socially distanced Shine Thru drive-thru events.

“We are more than excited to host Night to Shine in Southern Oregon for 2024,” said David Prince, Administrative Pastor at Grace Point in Medford. We have 3 other churches collaborating with us to make this the most unforgettable night for every attendee. First Baptist Church in Medford is providing the venue, Journey Church and Red Rock Cowboy Church are helping with our extensive Volunteer needs – including personal chaperones for each attendee. We are expecting close to 200 attendees, and each attendee will need a chaperone, not to mention the additional 100 volunteers needed to manage the event itself. This community is very special, and this night will be memorable for everyone involved.”

Joyce Wilson, Executive Director for Inclusion Works (formerly Down Syndrome Association of Southern Oregon (DSASO)) agrees with David. “In 2023, interest was over the top and we are just thrilled to watch this event unfold and create an experience that everyone will never forget.”
